Position Overview:
The University of Kigali (UoK) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of assistant Director, International Student Services and Partnerships. An Assistant Director of International Student Services and Partnerships manages immigration compliance, student support programs, and global institutional partnerships.
Academic Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree in international relations, higher education administration, Social Sciences, Law or related field.
Additional training or certification in international student affairs, immigration Compliance, or higher education internationalization is an added advantage.
Experience Required
- A minimum of Three (3) years’ relevant professional experience including at least 2(years) in international students’ services, international affairs, or a related function within a higher education institution.
- Demonstrated experience handling visa/immigration processes, regulatory compliance and international student administration.
- Experience coordinating orientation programmes and student support services is an added advantage.
- Proven ability to manage records, prepare reports and liaise with regulatory bodies, embassies and partner institutions.
Skills & Other Requirements
- Fluency in French (spoken and written) is required in addition to English, to support Francophone international students and partner institutions.
- Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills
- High level of organization, attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information/records management systems.
- Coordinate the admission, onboarding, orientation and integration of international students in line with University policy and regulatory requirements
- Manage the full administrative process for international students, including VISA applications, residence permits, immigration documentation and related compliance.
- Ensure compliance with national and international regulatory bodies governing international students; immigration authorities, higher education regulators, embassies and partner institutions.
- Monitor international student insurance coverage, ensuring valid health, travel and other required insurance is maintained throughout the period of study or exchange.
- Facilitate accommodation arrangements and support international students in securing suitable housing.
- Maintain accurate records and databases covering international students, exchange participants, visas, permits, insurance, accommodation and compliance documentation.
- Act as the primary point of contact for international students on welfare, academic adjustment, cultural integration and support services.
- Coordinate orientation programmes, intercultural activities, and engagement initiatives that support inclusion and successful integration into the University community.
- Monitor student progress and welfare, and report regularly on compliance, support services and inbound mobility activities.
- Support visiting scholars, exchange students and international delegations with administrative arrangements and a smooth transition to and from the University.
- Advise students, faculty, and administrative units on procedures and requirements relating to international student services and mobility compliance.
- Prepare operational and compliance reports, including statistical data on enrolment, accommodation, insurance and immigration matters.
- Represent the directorate in meetings and engagements as delegated and undertake other duties in support of the University’s internationalization objectives.
